A video of a stray dog in Melaka, found in a heartbreaking state after being skinned alive, has been circulating online.

The Stray Animal Association of Malaysia (SAFM) has called on authorities to investigate and take swift, firm action against those responsible in the industrial area.

The dog was skinned alive on its body and head

SAFM has since lodged a police report and urged witnesses or anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist the authorities.

“SAFM strongly condemns the inhumane act that occurred in Krubong, Melaka, where a dog was found with its skin torn off. Animal abuse is a serious offence that must be addressed with appropriate legal action,” the statement read.

According to BERNAMA, the dog was skinned alive on its body and head before being found at the Krubong industrial area.

Central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, said the incident was first discovered by animal NGO representatives at 3 PM on Friday (August 15), and a police report was lodged at 2:43 PM on Sunday (August 17).

“The injuries were too severe to be treated”

Christopher said an individual had taken the dog to a veterinary clinic, where the veterinarian confirmed that the injuries and infection were too severe to be treated. On the advice of the veterinarian, the dog was euthanised to prevent further suffering.

“The NGO representatives went to the location near a factory after receiving information about an injured dog. Upon inspection, they found the animal with severe wounds believed to be the result of abuse,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which carries a penalty of not less than RM20,000 and up to RM100,000, or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction.
