With the 15th General Election looming ever closer, Malaysians have been rallying together to ensure that the electoral process will go smoothly come November 19th.

Back in GE14, a bunch of initiatives were created to ensure that the votes of Malaysians overseas are still taken into account. It seems that for GE15, the same will be done.

Recently, the Global Malaysian Network took to social media to share that they are currently looking for volunteers to help carry the votes of Malaysians overseas, coordinators, runners and witnesses.

In a Google Form, they wrote, “This form is from Global Malaysian Network. Inspired by the GE14 Postal Voters Amazing Race, Global Malaysian Network (GMN) started as a Facebook group on 13 May 2018 to connect Global Malaysians and advance our camaraderie and goodwill.”

“Hello Malaysians, we are here again, thrown into a race against time to get our ballots home by 19 Nov 2022. During GE14, many of us stepped up, banded together and collectively we flew our ballots home. It was such a amazing experience, it gave birth to the Global Malaysian Network.”

They further added, “We had our ups and downs but it is time to put aside our differences and work together again. The call for volunteers have been sounded… Malaysians assemble!”

Calling for volunteers!

GMN said that since postal ballots would only be sent out after Nominations Day (November 5), it is likely that overseas Malaysians would only receive the ballots very close to November 19.

“We are calling for volunteers to help coordinate yet another Amazing Race to get the ballots delivered to its final destination.”

GMN are looking for:

  1. Flyers who are flying back to Malaysia between 10 Nov to 18 Nov,
  2. Ballot coordinators in your local area,
  3. Runners in Malaysia (Information will be passed on to Undi18),
  4. Witness (Saksi) for Borang 2 (Global Bersih’s initiative).

“If you are a Malaysian living overseas and would be willing to help. Please leave your name and a minimum of 1 method that people can use to contact you, that you are comfortable sharing with others. This information will be shared on Global Malaysian Network and the Malaysia GE15 Overseas Postal Voting FAQ FB group,” they wrote.

Finally, they urged Malaysians to coordinate and assist in a public place (e.g. park, cafe) for safety reasons.

“If you are volunteering as a witness (saksi), do not allow anyone to offer or accept financial compensation for being a witness. If you are volunteering as flyers or runners, we are counting on your goodwill and honesty if you request for monetary compensation,” they concluded.

Those who are interested may sign up via the form here.

We hope that such initiatives will help Malaysians overseas get their votes carried and brought back home.
