It’s no secret that Iraqi-Canadian rapper, singer and songwriter Ali Gatie is coming to Malaysia in March, and when artists visit foreign countries for shows, sometimes they try different, unconventional ways to connect with fans from that particular country.

Ali Gatie is no different.

He took to his official Twitter page to share a local phone number Malaysians can use to WhatsApp the star before his show here, and to say that things blew up is an understatement.

He wrote, “Malaysia. Because I love you all, I got a number so that you can WhatsApp me. +60182773017.”

Fans were thrilled, to say the least. Many chose to call him instead of sending him a WhatsApp message, to which they were unable to connect to him as he was ‘already on another call’, as showcased by netizen Sayamerah (@mayraayam).

In fact, Ali eventually requested his fans to stop calling him as it was preventing him from answering those who sent him messages.

And how many did he get?

“Over 10,000 messages,” Ali shared.

It’s still unsure as to how long the number will be active so, drop the number a WhatsApp message, show him some love and let’s try not to drop him any phone calls as he’s clearly trying to ensure that each and everyone of his Malaysian fans that messages him gets a personal reply.

Ali’s posting has since garnered over 6,900 retweets.

We can’t wait to catch him at his show when he comes down on the 4th of March at The Bee, Publika!

We’ll see you there.Ā
