Recently, a 27-year-old chef, *Leo (not real name) took to Facebook to share a racist encounter he had in a job interview with a Japanese restaurant.

Leo shared with WORLD OF BUZZ that he had found out that a well-known Japanese restaurant was hiring and decided to try out for one of the positions they were offering.

“The day before (10 November), I met one of the Japanese chefs and told him that I’m looking for a job in the kitchen and he asked me to come at 10am today,” he explained.

“After he was done looking at my resume, he told me that they didn’t want to hire an Indian,” Leo told WORLD OF BUZZ.

“He didn’t ask about my skills, he didn’t ask about my experiences or anything. The only thing he said is that:

“We don’t hire Indians because they are very dirty and very risky to hire.”

Job Interview

Leo told the chef that his statement was very racist, to which the chef allegedly replied him saying “Ya, but not every Indian.”

“I asked him, “If not every Indian is like that then why are you not giving me a chance despite having all these skills and experiences?”.

“He just responded saying, “No no no…no Indians. Very dirty. Very risky.” And then he chased me out.”

Stress

For illustration purposes only

“Despite having experience working at a fine dining restaurant, he [the interviewer] pretty much judged me because of being a certain individual,” Leo said.

“The company should put a remark on their job vacancy ad that they don’t hire Indians,” he said.

Leo added that his intention isn’t to defame the restaurant but to shed light that racism still exists in the job industry and several other sectors as well.

Racism should never be tolerated. Let’s all take this opportunity to remember that we are living in a beautiful, multiracial company and it’s our job as individuals to embrace and respect every race, religion, and culture in order to live in unity.

WORLD OF BUZZ has reached out to the restaurant for a statement in regards to the matter but has yet to receive a response.
