10 Things Only Malaysians Who Live For Music Will Relate To

Malaysians are an emotional and sentimental bunch. We relate easily to songs because there’s nothing quite like the power of music. It takes you to a whole new world. It reminds you of that special memory, or of that special someone. It works as a mood or a confident booster. The pick-me-up when the chips are down.

And for those of us who embody music in our everyday life, it can be a challenge to fully express ourselves. Not to mention, the many times when you feel out of place when all you hear is silence, or the absence of the songs you love listening to. We feel you la, braders and sisters.

Here are a couple of things that us true music lovers could relate with:

1. That beat that wakes you up in the morning

It’s that beat that starts your day right after putting on that playlist or slipping on your headphones. That feeling of badassery, that you’ll conquer the day and own it after the very first beat drop.

2. The frustration when songs are overplayed

Hop onto your car, turn on the radio and you hear that catchy new song. It’s lunchtime, and you overheard the same song playing at the restaurant. The day is about to end, you hop back onto your car, and you guessed it, it’s that song again. Dei, enough la! Why is it a thing for Malaysians to play songs popular on repeat??? There’s only so much love we can have for a song, right?

3. Finding that song that was obviously made for you

Who can forget those epic moments when you relate to a specific song which felt like it was telling a chapter of your life, or just jiving with the exact mood you’re feeling. Or that one song that perfectly sums up what you needed most, like cake… Cake Cake Cake Cake Cake Cake! Oh yeah, we can so relate with that.

4. You’re a walking music library

When your friends are trying to recall a song they’ve heard before, they’ll seemingly always turn to you for help. All you need is for them to just hum the tune and blurt random parts of the lyrics, and voila! You’d almost always be able to identify the song! Champion la you!

5. Listening to awesome music wayyy before they started playing it on the radio

That song they keep repeating on the radio? Yep, already heard it like ages ago. Now that everyone’s finally catching on to what was once your favourite tune, you can’t help but to just shrug it off.

6. Your choice of music always leave people at awe

Music lovers transcend labels and just listen to whatever they love. Is that a pop song? Is that rock? Is that some strange hippie-hipster-new-age-soothing hymn? It matters not. You’ll enjoy all of them anyway.

7. That moment when you accidentally stumble across your new favourite song

You wander aimlessly on the Internet scoping out for new beats, or heard a snippet on a commercial and just like that, your body tingles and you get an eargasm because you’ve just found your new favourite.

By the fates! It must’ve been sent by the Gods.

8. When you hear your song being played

Be it in your car, or on the streets: when your song comes on, you know what to do! Let the beat take over and watch yourself get pumped up as you dance and sing to that sick beat, or serenade to a ballad that speaks to your inner romantic!

9. When you realize you left these bad boys at home

Headphones or earphones to music lovers is like food to the hungry.

That feeling when you realised that you forgot to bring them with you is the absolute worse. Now you’ll just have to painfully go through the day without your dose of musical therapy. #Ineedmysongsnow
