Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, is stressing that datukships, medals and titles cannot be purchased, but are only given to individuals who are truly deserving and have contributed to the government and the country.

According to a report by Berita Harian, Sultan Ibrahim shared that, although the government has outlined the conditions for the consideration of these titles, His Majesty will still re-evaluate each proposed candidate.

“In my view, only individuals who have served and contributed to the government for a long time, or who have brought glory to the country, should be accepted. Indeed, every year, not many pass the conditions. Although there are parties who lobby, I will not entertain them,”

“The ranks of Datuk and Tan Sri are not for purchase. If you have a lot of money, do charity, help the poor and the needy.”

Saying this at the Ceremony of Conferring the Federal Territories Orders, Stars and Medals for 2025, in conjunction with the Official Birthday Anniversary of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara, His Majesty added that successful recipients at the event should be appreciative and proud of the awards they were bestowed with.
