A group of vegan activists was spotted in Bukit Bintang, KL, and one of them, who was in a Guy Fawkes Mask held up a screen, showing the process of slaughtering animals.
A Malaysian man, however, approached the masked activist and started eating a piece of fried chicken next to him. No words were uttered between the men. In a viral TikTok post by @jackberdedai, the masked activist continued standing with the screen in his hand and did not react to Jack who enjoyed his fried poultry, while other activists looked at the duo.
While social media users who did not agree with the veganism ideology praised Jack for what he did, others deemed his actions “rude”.
In another TikTok post yesterday (January 23), Jack said he did not assume what he did was right and explained why he found the need to enjoy a piece of fried chicken next to the masked activist in Bukit Bintang.
“Some things, you just have to keep to yourself”
In his explanation video, Jack reiterated that it was never his intention to pour gasoline on the burning fire, and he meant no harm toward the vegan activists.
“There are some things you can’t fight for publicly. Some things are only valid to yourself.”
Jack also pointed out that there are organisations and authorities in Malaysia that oversee the slaughtering of animals to make sure the process is done humanely. The man then expressed that he doesn’t think this is the right place for the vegan activists to spread their ideology.
“It’s 2025. We have gained independence for 68 years now, and you still find it appropriate to bring in the Western ideology. You’ve come to the wrong place.”
“I want to make sure that no Malaysians are distracted by these weird ideologies,” Jack said.
Jack has since removed the initial video but has given WORLD OF BUZZ consent to write about the matter, which took place on January 18, 2025.
Jack also shared that during the incident, none of the activists chased him away from the scene, but admitted to hearing some cheers from the public for what he did.
A tourist approached Jack and told him exactly what he thought of that.
“The tourist told me what the activist did was bullsh*t and annoying. To me, this is considered as tarnishing the image of Malaysia.”
“People know that Malaysia is a multiracial country, so it’s a bummer if we leave a negative perception to the tourists,” Jack told WORLD OF BUZZ.
