After just an hour of being married to each other, a young couple from Southwest China’s Province decided to file for a divorce, with the wife demanding 300,000 yuan (RM192,686) in damages from her ex-husband.

According to Global Times, it was the husband who filed for a divorce immediately after the marriage. He claimed that he did not want to get married and only chose to do so because of the pressure he was receiving from his wife.

Marriage

He also claimed that he had actually broken up with her before the wedding but she repeatedly harassed him through text messages, which stimulated him to make a hasty and rash decision.

The wife, in response to the husband’s request of seeking a divorce, demanded a compensation of 300,000 yuan (RM192,686) in damages, claiming that he had deliberately cheated on the marriage.

Divorce

As they failed to agree on the divorce, they brought their case to court. The court held that both parties had a certain emotional foundation and the husband failed to prove that the relationship had broken down. The court concluded that the divorce petition was not supported.

While this marriage was definitely short-lived, this couple doesn’t take the cake for the shortest marriage ever recorded. Back in 2019, another couple in Kuwait were believed to have gotten a divorce in just three minutes after getting married!

Marriage is a very important decision that affects the rest of your life. It should never be treated as a child’s play.
