A few days ago, it was announced that national footballer Luqman Hakim Shamsudin was set to become the first Malaysian to play in Iceland after joining Njardvik FC on loan for a season.

The 20-year-old, who has two senior caps will be plying his trade in Iceland’s second division this year. He was previously included in The Guardian’s list of 60 best young footballers in the world for 2019.

Luqman

Being the first ever Malaysian to play in Iceland must have been a surprising experience for Luqman, especially considering the change in weather and temperatures he has to get used to whilst playing.

Recently, Njardvik FC took to social media to share videos of Luqman’s arrival at the club as well as his first ever training session.

In a video which has since gone viral, Luqman appeared to be ‘cold-proof’ after spending years playing in Europe after he was spotted warming up wearing just a windbreaker and long pants without gloves.

With the situation being windy and the field covered in snow, Luqman looked calm going through the training session with his new teammates who were all wearing face masks and gloves due to the harsh conditions.

On the day, it was reported that the temperatures had dropped down to as low as -4 degrees Celsius.

In the video, the winds were so strong that it was able to move the entire goal posts around the pitch.

Pride of the nation

The video has since gone viral after it had captured the attention of Malaysian netizens who took to the comments section to praise Luqman’s determination and courage to go to Iceland to play there considering the harsh conditions.

“You got to give him respect. This decision takes serious balls. Wishing nothing but the best for his career.”

“Mentality monster?? I would fall into my knees seeing the wind,” commented a user.
