Ask anyone who has taken the STPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Tinggi) examination and they will definitely tell you that it is hard to get through. No joke! It takes a lot of patience and hard work in order to do well in STPM, just like how these girls from St John’s Institution had done.

According to NST, Nurul Syahida Zainun Abidin and Tan Chin Ching are two visually-impaired students who scored a four-flat in their STPM. This means that these amazing girls had managed to obtain four straight A’s and a total CGPA of 4.0 in their STPM results that were released yesterday (6 March 2018).

Nurul, 20, who lost her vision after experiencing neurological disorders at the age of nine, said, “I am delighted and grateful for these results. I spent an average of three hours studying every day and always focused in class. All my hard work has finally paid off.”

Meanwhile, Tan said studying in her hostel was tough because the magnifying glass that she was supposed to use wasn’t easily available.

“But, I took that as a challenge,” she said.

Well, she definitely overcame the problem like a boss!

In the near future, the girls plan to pursue their higher education at University of Malaya (UM). Tan intends to pursue an economics degree while she’s there while Nurul hopes that UM will open a path for her dream of becoming a lecturer one day.

To appreciate their hard work, the two extraordinary girls along with 22 other candidates were awarded the STPM Best Student award at Putrajaya Marriot Hotel by Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid. Plus, he also presented the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Best Students award to three recipients.

We congratulate Nurul and Tan on their tremendous achievement and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. We also hope that their story will inspire other youngsters and future Form Six students to strive for success and to never give up no matter what your circumstances may be.
