Malaysian philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, more famously known as Uncle Kentang, is renowned for helping those in need through donations and assistance from the general public. Consequently, he takes great care to ensure that all recipients are genuinely in need of assistance.

Recently, he opened up about why he initially hesitated to share the contact details of a woman seeking help, citing her ‘sexy’ WhatsApp profile picture.

Uncle Kentang revealed he initially hesitated to assist a woman with a ‘sexy’ profile picture

Taking to his Facebook page, he wrote, “I dared not share her phone number because of her sexy WhatsApp profile (picture). But now, I dare to share with people who want to help her.”

He explained that the woman had gotten in touch with him via WhatsApp because she was facing financial difficulties. He initially hesitated to share her contact details with those who can help her, as he described her WhatsApp photo as heavily emphasising her cleavage, which he believes may cause negative opinions.

“I was apprehensive about giving her contact to our supporters, as they may form a negative opinion after seeing her WhatsApp profile picture. But, after I called her and asked her about it, I realised she is in a broken relationship with her husband.”

Why did she have a ‘sexy’ WhatsApp profile image?

The woman had explained to Uncle Kentang that her husband was having an affair, and that she used a ‘sexy’ image of herself in an attempt to lure her husband to go home to her and their kids.

“She is not only fighting for her husband, but she is fighting for a father for their 3 children.”

“I do not know if this is right, but immediately after her explanation, I dare to share her contact with people who would like to help her out,” he said.

Don’t judge a book by its cover

After thoroughly monitoring the woman’s actions and behaviour while taking her and her children out shopping for school supplies and for a meal, he ultimately believes that the woman is deserving of assistance.

Uncle Kentang stated, “If an investigating officer (IO) is not careful and forms opinions based on what a suspect claims about the victim, it can have a bearing on the investigation as the IO may deem that the victim shouldn’t be given justice, and a thorough investigation may not be carried out.”

“To conclude, having your trust in me, I need to be extra vigilant when I propose a case for assistance on my page. I cannot form any opinion based on hearsay. I must go on-ground, understand and know the truth,” he added.
