Following the incident where a Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) professor received backlash for insulting a B40 student for allegedly not owning a laptop, the local university has finally reached a verdict.

In a statement shared to their Twitter page, UiTM has decided to retire the lecturer for the time being.

They wrote, “Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) through the University Board of Directors held on 31 March 2022 has decided to retire Professor Dr Roshana Takim, from her teaching duties starting 1 April 2022, until a complete investigation is carried out by UiTM. This decision was made to ensure that the investigation can be carried out effectively and in an orderly manner.”

UiTM also took the time to issue a warning to those who share misleading information.

“At the same time, the university takes seriously any party that disseminates confidential information intentionally or unintentionally that could affect the image and reputation of the university and threaten the safety of its residents,”

“UiTM will also not hesitate to take firm action and report to the authorities if there are parties who share misleading posts.”

“UiTM is always vigilant and concerned about the well-being of its academics and students. In this context, UiTM will strengthen the role of lecturers and improve teaching policies and ethics at all levels of study. Assessments and monitoring of Lecturer Professionalism (PRO-PENS) made randomly each semester can also be an additional element in the promotion process and extension of service contract,” they added.

Stay tuned for more updates.
