By now, we’re all fans of our own country when it comes to food. Be it gourmet or street food, it never ceases to amaze us. But to hear a foreign’s perspective on the good things about our food hits differently.

Recently, a TVB veteran actor from Hong Kong, Benz Hui visited Malaysia to produce an advertisement and he brought his family along for a vacation as it has been quite a while since he last visited our country.

They certainly did not miss enjoying the food here, and Benz spoke fondly of his ‘foodie’ experience.

‘The food in Malaysia cheap and tasty!’

His wife and daughter, who tagged along for shopping also described the experience as ‘totally worth it.’ During the media conference, Benz joked and said,

‘I used up all my money after I gave them to my wife and daughter to go shopping.’

Benz, who personally does not enjoy shopping revealed that despite so, his wife would still buy him something if the former saw anything fit for her husband.

‘It’s a friendly place!’

Are food and shopping the only good things that Benz & co enjoyed during their trip? Certainly not!

Benz admitted that at times, he was shocked by how friendly some Malaysians can be. In this case, he pointed out that the workers at the hotel and the restaurants were polite to him and his family.

‘They bowed a lot. I don’t know why but it’s a good habit of them, and I felt very comfortable,’ Benz added.

Still in front of the camera

If you’re keeping tabs on the Hong Kong TV series, you’re likely to notice that Benz hasn’t made an appearance in TV series for some time. When asked about his status in the TV industry, he denied the allegations of him being retired and said that he still has to work.

‘Unfortunately, I’m still looking for a good script. I signed for a TV series in China, but we still can’t get into filming due to the pandemic.’

Dear Malaysians, do you agree with Benz’s take on the food & the hospitality here? What are your fondest memories when it comes to those two in Malaysia?
