A local hospital has made history by successfully separating 3-month-old conjoined twins in a surgery that took over 13 hours.

Taking to their Facebook page, Kuala Lumpur’s Tunku Azizah Hospital (HTA) shared its success story, though it is not their first time achieving this success.

Conjoined 1

They wrote, “On June 24, 2025 (Tuesday), history was made at the Tunku Azizah Hospital (HTA) with the successful separation of a pair of 3-month-old male twins who were Omphaloischiophagus Tetrapus Conjoined Twins – a very rare type of conjoined twins, where both are connected at the abdomen and pelvis, and have 4 legs.”

“The surgery began at 8:30am and ended at 9:48pm, with complete separation occurring at 5:43pm,”

“Alhamdullilah, the surgery went smoothly and both babies are now stable and are being treated at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).”

Conjoined 2

They proceeded to name the surgeons who led the surgery, which included Dr Mohd Yusof Abdullah, Dato’ Dr Zakaria Zahari, Dr Intan Zarina Fakir Mohamed, and Dr Phang Yee Yun and also mentioned the participation of a dedicated HTA and HKL (Hospital Kuala Lumpur) paediatric surgical team.

Not the first time!

Conjoined 3

This is the 4th pair of conjoined twins to be separated at HTA since 2019 and the 19th overall case in the history of HTA and HKL.

“Congratulations to the entire team for their extraordinary efforts, expertise and cooperation. May these 2 little ones continue to grow up healthy and happy,” they added.
