Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hinted that the iconic Petronas Sepang International Circuit (SIC) could soon find its way back onto the permanent Formula 1 calendar.
Taking to Facebook, the Prime Minister shared that he held a special meeting with the Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali right before the Bahrain Grand Prix kicked off at Sepang.

PMX says bringing F1 back will take time and planning
During their discussion, he said the potential of bringing back the Malaysian Grand Prix as a permanent fixture was high on the agenda, welcoming the long-standing hopes of local fans who have missed the roar of F1 engines since the country last hosted a round in 2017.
“We discussed the prospect of bringing back the Malaysian Grand Prix into the Formula 1 calendar permanently, answering the long-awaited wishes of fans who have eagerly awaited its return to Sepang,” he said.
However, PMX noted that the process requires careful planning. Due to an already heavily packed F1 racing calendar and existing contract commitments with current host nations, he explained that making it happen will take time and thorough deliberation.

Cabinet to assess Malaysia’s capacity to host F1
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister added that the matter will be brought to the Cabinet table to assess the nation’s readiness, financial capabilities, and the overall economic and social benefits it could bring to everyday Malaysians.
“Insya-Allah, this matter will be discussed with the Cabinet to examine suitable spaces and directions, taking into account the country’s capabilities and its benefits to the economy and the rakyat,” he added.
