This is taking the “my dog ate my homework” excuse to a whole different level.

If you live in a household of pets, you’d know that precious items need to be kept in a safe place if you want them to be maintained in mint condition. As much as we love our furry companions, they can be destructive in the worst way possible.

Recently, netizen @mamblonumber5 took to Twitter to share the tragic experience of having his degree eaten up by his very own pet cat. “My f**cking cat ate my degree!!!!!!!” penned the netizen in the tweet that has since garnered over 73,000 retweets and 470,000 likes.

In the picture shared by the netizen, the degree certification, awarded by the University of Nottingham, is visibly torn at the bottom corner with what appears to be bite marks.

The netizen later posted a picture of the adorable culprit. “His name is Mika, and no, he isn’t an oyen.”

Many netizens responded to the thread with horror stories of their own. One Twitter user who shared a picture of his degree in shreds said, “My dog ate mine the week before I had to leave to another country and submit is as proof to complete my registration for a graduate program.”

Thankfully with Mika, the netizen said this wasn’t a regular occurrence. “He’s never done anything like this before, he’s never even eaten any of my other papers, just the degree,” he said to World of Buzz.

Hopefully, the cute culprit doesn’t make this a habit. This is a PSA to all pet owners to keep your valuables safe from your fluffy, furry document destroyers.
