Over 54.2% of Sunway College GCE A-Level students achieved a minimum of 3As, highlighting the steady achievement of high academic standards and reinforcing its role as the leading Cambridge provider in the nation.

“As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, it is clear that our focus on providing exceptional academic support and a nurturing environment continues to yield outstanding results,” said Ruth Cheah, Director of the Sunway College GCE A-Level Programme. “The success of our students reflects both their dedication and the steadfast commitment of our programme.”

Emphasising the programme’s persistent success, Sunway College proudly holds the top position with the most recipients of the May 2024 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, earning a remarkable 28 accolades by 26 students.

Beyond Sunway College’s renowned academic support, the programme also embraces and supports students from diverse backgrounds. This is exemplified by a 28-year-old graduate, Ross James Farren, who achieved an impressive 3A* and 1A, further solidifying Sunway College’s position as a Campus With A Conscience.

Dropping out of school at 15 years old without formal qualifications, Farren leveraged his musical talent to secure a degree in Professional Music from a college in Malaysia and has worked as a session guitarist and producer for eight years. The impact of the 2020 pandemic on live music, coupled with personal challenges, prompted a pivotal decision to return to education.

“I applied to five colleges around Kuala Lumpur, and Sunway was the only one that accepted me. Ms Ruth Cheah personally reviewed my application and decided to give me a chance. I couldn’t believe my luck when I received the email saying that I had been accepted,” Farren recounts.

“The staff at Sunway College have been hugely supportive throughout my time here. Besides being top-class educators, Ms Sharon, Ms Leong, Ms Grace, and Mr Derek are all really understanding and kind people. I cannot go without mentioning how much my wife has helped me while I have been studying. Balancing A-Levels with work and being a dad was challenging at times, but it would have been completely impossible without my wife in my corner.”

Farren advises that while still figuring things out themselves, it’s never too late to change your circumstances. By making small, positive decisions each day, you can gradually build a better future.

As Sunway College GCE A-Level continues to set the benchmark for educational success in Malaysia, it remains dedicated to nurturing talent and transforming lives.
