Malaysia is still in the process of vaccination and it seems like we still have a long way to go. According to World Health Organization, only 29% of the population have been fully vaccinated. Unfortunately, despite the awareness of the significance of getting vaccinated, there are still people who refuse to get vaccinated for multiple reasons including beliefs that involve some very questionable conspiracy theories.

But anti-vaxxers, your time to refuse the vaccine might be short-lived. Just recently, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that in order to curb the outbreak of the virus and achieve herd immunity, action will be taken against anti-vaxxers.

He has yet to reveal the penalties in a detailed manner as the announcement is expected to be made this month or next month.

However, before any actions are implemented, the government will first observe why these groups of people refuse to register for the vaccines.

“We will have to investigate if some of them have medical histories that stop them from getting vaccinated, or simply because they don’t believe in it.”

Additionally, he also stated that after the investigations, they will consider making vaccination mandatory under the existing legal provisions. He made it clear that he is not ruling out the possibility of making it compulsory for each individual to take the jabs.

Vaccine

As for the teenagers between 16-17 years old, they will receive their jabs earlier but they will have to wait until all eligible adults are fully vaccinated, as reported by The Edge Markets. In the meantime, he also reminded everyone to do their part by registering for vaccination and informed that Terengganu will receive an additional 590,000 doses of vaccines within this month.

By October, the Prime Minister expects to achieve herd immunity. If you haven’t registered for vaccination, now is the time to do so!
