It’s no secret that there are those who are struggling to keep a roof above their heads here in Malaysia. But thankfully, our country is full of people willing to help.

Among the people who live to assist is Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim.

He took to his Facebook profile to showcase how a family of three had been kicked out of their home just days after their unit was flooded. Though, thankfully, he not only provided them with a place to stay but also helped them kick start a small business to earn a proper living.

House 1 1

He wrote, “During the General Elections (GE15) campaigns, Kak Nur and her family were evicted from their rented house. At that time, I arranged a new house for them. In the middle of the campaigns, I was only able to provide emergency aid to have a roof over their heads. If I do more, it will become a matter of slander. I promised Kak Nur that I would come back after the General Elections.”

And return, he did

“Today (Sunday, November 27), I went to the store to buy beds, a sofa, a dining table and a ceiling fan for Kak Nur. I wanted to give them a surprise in their new home at Desa Wawasan. She had told me that her son, Irfan (15-years-old), had to sleep on the floor because their mattresses were all damaged due to the floods during the General Elections,”

“Kak Nur was surprised when the furniture was delivered to the house. She said she felt like a rich person sitting on the sofa,” he added.

House 3

But of course, Kak Nur wants to be able to rely on herself to keep her family afloat. Hence, Sim then helped her start a small nasi lemak business!

“That day, Kak Nur said she wanted to start a food stall, so I got a hawker lot in Alma Jaya. I bought the items she needs for the business, I gave her a starting capital, a total of RM3,000,”

“Today alone, Kak Nur made a profit of RM500 selling nasi lemak with side dishes. In the past, Kak Nur’s husband, Abang Li, was paid to cut grass, he could only make about maybe RM500 to RM800 a month,” he explained.

House 5

Now that Kak Nur’s business is up and running, you can support her by purchasing her delicious nasi lemak! She is located at stall 13, Alma Jaya hawker lot, and usually sells from 1pm to 7pm.

“I’m happy that Kak Nur, Abang Li and Irfan no longer have to live in fear of being kicked out of the house. But I can only help to this extent, the next battle depends on Kak Nur’s family,”

“We pray that their burdens are eased.”
