Seputeh Member of Parliament (MP) Teresa Kok has denied viral claims that she supports “Halal certification for pork.” The claims stem from a fabricated article allegedly published by Berita Harian Online.

In a Facebook post, Teresa confirmed filing a report yesterday (15 January) at the Sri Petaling Police Station and with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over the circulation of a fake article titled, “Halal Certification for Pork is Justified.”

Teresa Kok lodged a police report after viral posts falsely claimed she supported Halal certification for pork

The Seputeh MP recalled receiving the article via WhatsApp messages from her friends, before being informed that it had gone viral on social media.

“This afternoon, my assistant and I went to the Sri Petaling Police Station to file a report over social media posts about a slanderous article titled ‘Halal Certification for Pork is Justified – Teresa Kok.’

“I had no choice but to report it to the police and notify the MCMC, as this article has been widely circulated online and I have never made such a statement,” she wrote.

“This could harm social harmony”

Teresa shared a list of 18 Facebook accounts that have been identified as sharing the false and slanderous article. At the same time, a Threads user under the handle of “infra.gadget” was also identified.

She also highlighted how the article has damaged her reputation and wrongly portrayed her as a “racial and religious agitator.”

“This false and slanderous article has harmed my reputation and made it seem as if I am a racial and religious agitator, which threatens community harmony.

“I urge the police to investigate all social media account owners who shared this inflammatory article and take appropriate legal action,” she added.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian Group editor Zulkifli Jalil clarified that the article with the viral headline was never published on BH Online, stressing that the headline had been manipulated from the original legitimate publication.
