Residents of a flat in Singapore have voiced their frustration after being disturbed by an uncle’s daily routine that’s been causing quite a bit of inconvenience for neighbours nearby.

It was reported that the uncle burns incense in the corridor every day, and the powder takes almost three hours to finish burning, leaving the entire hallway filled with smoke.

“The smoke would linger for hours”

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, a male resident living on the same floor as the uncle said that while he respects all religions, he cannot accept the uncle’s personal behaviour.

“He burns incense powder at the door at random times every day, and it produces thick smoke. The smell isn’t very strong, but the smoke lingers for hours, making life difficult for everyone,” he explained.

He added that some residents had to bring in fans to push the smoke away, as otherwise, their homes would be filled with it, making it hard to breathe.

Even with doors and windows closed, the smoke still seeped through the gaps, forcing him to use cloth strips and tissues to block them.

Neighbours filed a report against the uncle

It was also reported that several religious items were placed outside the uncle’s unit, along with a large plate of powdery substance by the steps. Inside, numerous statues of deities were allegedly displayed in the living room and bedroom, making it look like a home shrine.

Meanwhile, another female neighbour living across the hall claimed that the uncle not only burns incense every day, but often starts early in the morning, forcing residents to keep their doors and windows tightly shut.

Some neighbours confronted the uncle, but said “he refused to listen and had a bad attitude.” They eventually filed complaints, hoping the issue could be properly resolved.
