A non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Penang has touched the hearts of many after sharing the story of a dog who spent years at a shelter waiting for a family.
The female dog, Malindo, was known for greeting anyone who stopped to spend a moment with her with “the biggest smile, the happiest tail wags, and kisses.”

Malindo slowly lost hope of ever being adopted
According to the post, Malindo eventually stopped rushing to the front of her kennel to greet visitors as the years went by and her hope of finding a home slowly faded.
“She never stopped loving people. But people stopped choosing her. Not because she wasn’t affectionate, not because she wasn’t gentle, and not because she wasn’t deserving. Simply because she was no longer a puppy,” the post read.
The NGO said Malindo eventually accepted life at the shelter, believing that was all life would ever be for her.
“She was safe. She was fed. She was loved by our team and volunteers. But love from us could never replace the one thing every stray dog longs for… a family to call their own.”

Five years later, Malindo finally found a home
Fortunately, Malindo’s story took a huge turn when a couple visited the shelter while still healing from the loss of their two beloved senior dogs.
“They weren’t looking for a puppy. They were looking for a gentle soul. And somehow, out of all the dogs waiting… they found Malindo.”

After taking some time to think it over, the couple returned to the shelter and finally adopted Malindo after more than five years of waiting.
“For the first time in over five years… Malindo didn’t go back into her kennel. She went home.
“To Malindo’s incredible family, thank you for seeing beyond the grey hairs. Thank you for seeing beyond her age. Thank you for choosing the dog that so many others walked past. You didn’t just change her future. You rewrote the ending she had already accepted,” the post read.
