Back in our school days, many of us would try our best so that we can get up the stage and receive prizes for our grades and/or accomplishments.

Those prizes would always be in the form of cash but for this school in China, high-achieving students and teachers get a piece of raw pork. Yes, you read that right.

In a video uploaded on Douyin, students formed a queue and were given a piece of raw pork each by who we presume to be the principal.

After most of the students claimed their meat, they were made to stand on the stage and an idiom appeared on the screen.

“Youths are the pillars of a strong nation.”

The school is located in Luzhou, Sichuan Province, China and staff there revealed that it has been 3 years ever since they started giving out pork.

The meat is sponsored by the school’s alumni and this semester, they gave out a total of 91 slabs of raw pork to high-achieving students and teachers, reported Jimu News. A teacher said,

“It is an acknowledgement of our work. To me, it is an honour to receive one.”

Many netizens have also said that giving out pork is a good idea.

“This is way better than a certificate.”

However, there were some netizens who said that the students who received the prize were disrespectful as they did not use both hands.

“When someone older gives a gift to a younger person, they will need to receive it with both hands. This is a fine Chinese tradition.”

Others retorted and said that one should not judge solely based on a 42-second video.

“I originally thought that the comments section will be filled with people saying that this is not a bad idea that can reward the students and make parents happy. But I find people talking about how the students are disrespectful. Both parties are happy, there is no question of respect or disrespect here. It is not up to the netizens to judge the students.”

Well, we believe that this is certainly a fine reward. You can watch the video here and decide for yourself!
