This was such an unfortunate event to happen to him!

A 55-year-old man was looking forward to his first date with a woman he met through a messaging app. But little did he know that she was not who he thought she was.

According to The Star, the crooks behind the ‘woman’ he was talking to were four men aged between 21 and 27 years old, who were on the hunt for victims to rob.

After connecting with the victim on the app, they set up a ‘date’ with him at a mall in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah at 3am on Tuesday (15 January).

“When he turned up at the location, he was met by four men who confronted him and started beating him up,” said Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm Habibi Manjinji, as reported by The Star.

You could say it was the worst date of his life since he lost his mobile phone and about RM1,000 in cash, including US and South Korean currency.

The injured victim was then sent to a nearby hospital by passersby before they alerted the police of the incident.

The police managed to track down one of the suspects who, after being interrogated, later led them to the other three suspects. He was detained at a petrol station in Kampung Air at 10.30am, on the same day, as reported by Berita Harian.

With the arrest of these four suspects, the police believe they can solve three similar cases that happened before, which fall under Section 349 of the Penal Code.

Apart from that, the police managed to recover the victim’s belongings in 24 hours.

What would you have done if you found out the person you were talking to online was really just four robbers? What do you think of the situation? Tell us in the comments below!
