It is understandable for some companies to feel worried that their employees would steal from their premises, but to what extent would they go to in order to prevent that from happening?

One Russian company, Wildberries, which is considered a knock off of Amazon, is now under fire for forcing their employees to participate in strip searches before and after work.

Economist Federico Alves, Econ. took to his Twitter account to showcase shocking footage from a journalist who went undercover in the company to obtain evidence of the humiliating strip searches.

Strip 1

He wrote, “Russia. Wildberries warehouse workers, a Russian copy of Amazon, undergo strip searches before starting and ending their shifts to mitigate theft.”

In the video, female staff members could be seen stripping down to their undergarments while a female inspector searches them.

According to a report by Daily Mail, male employees of the company are also subjected to the strip searches

Strip 2

Employees are searched in before their shift as they are not allowed to bring in their mobile phones and watches, while the searches conducting after their shifts is to prevent employees from snatching the merchandise.

The undercover journalist only managed to stay on the job for 3 days before he had enough.

Strip 3

“He worked there for only 3 days, but he had enough impressions to last a lifetime. According to his investigation, every morning in the warehouse really does begin with a humiliating procedure,” the report shared.

Wildberries is owned by 47-year-old self-made billionaire and friend of Russian president Valdimir Putin, Tatyana Bakalchuk, who allegedly has a fortune of a whopping £10.7 billion (RM59,474,043,902.00).

Though, since the controversy of the strip searches were made public, it is said that her empire has taken quite a hit. And rightfully so considering the demeaning work conditions her employees have to endure.
