Animal lovers of Penang, rejoice, for free-roaming fur babies will soon be safe from anyone using overpopulation as an excuse to justify killing them.

The Penang state government is emphasizing their ‘No Cruelty To Animals’ policy by launching a facility along River Road for the management of strays. This facility will be opened in conjunction with the Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR) programme aimed at controlling the stray animal population.

Local State Government committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo spoke to Malaysiakini, confirming that there will be 10 staff members who will be in charge of catching strays to bring back to the facility to be neutered, completely doing away with any reason to harm doggos on the street.

The premises are said to have been upgraded at a cost of RM17,000 and can house up to 60 dogs at one go. But the best part?

Once the doggos are neutered, they’ll either be released back to their natural environment or be made available for adoption! Just drop by the facility and pick out a fur baby to take home with you, provided you give them a forever home.

There are currently 10,000 to 15,000 stray and abandoned animals on Penang island, whereas there are about 20,000 on the mainland. That’s a lot of pups that need saving.

Remember ladies and gentlemen, adopt, don’t shop.
