A netizen has raised concerns over around 20 cats allegedly kept in cramped conditions at Kundang Industrial Park in Rawang, Selangor.
Taking to Threads, user @shakilanatasha_ shared photos showing the cats confined in stacked cages over a drain near a workers’ housing area, prompting calls for help and responsible adoption.
Owner claims cages protect cats from stray dogs
According to Shakila, she and her husband spoke to the owner at the site, who explained that the cats were being confined to protect them from packs of stray dogs roaming the industrial area.
Shakila said she could hear stray dogs barking in the area during her visit. However, she was concerned by the conditions inside the stacked wire cages, noting that some of the cats appeared lethargic and distressed. She also said she was unsure whether the cats were being provided with food and water regularly.
“I spoke to the owner, who said the cats were being kept there because of the dogs. I asked if it would be okay for someone to take them in, and he said yes, but that he would need to be informed first. Please, if anyone is willing to care for them, please help. There are around 20 cats, and they are far too cramped in there,” she posted.
Urgent pleas for adopters and rescuers
Concerned by the lack of space, ventilation and cleanliness, Shakila noted that the cages appeared to have little to no bedding or cat litter and were suspended over a drain. She subsequently appealed for members of the public and animal welfare groups to step in and help the cats.
However, she said releasing the cats on the spot was not a viable option due to the safety risks in the surrounding area and the possibility of them being recaptured.
Shakila told WORLD OF BUZZ that she has since lodged a report with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) and contacted animal rescuers who may be able to assist with the situation.
“I hope there can be more support from the community, especially through shelters, rescuers and organisations that can help provide temporary care and find suitable homes for them.
” Even small contributions can make a difference by helping shelters and rescuers take in more animals and provide them with the care they need. I really hope that, with more awareness and people coming together to help, we can give these animals a better chance at a safe and loving life,” she said.
