Escalators are moving staircases that are fairly easy to use. Besides just standing on them like a normal person would, you’re also supposed to refrain from using the handrails as something to put your feet on.

Yet, there are some out there who appear to not only not know how to use them, but put themselves in dangerous positions while riding on an escalator.

Penang’s famous tourist attraction, Penang Hill, took to their Facebook page to showcase how a woman was caught on CCTV footage weirdly squatting or standing onto their downward escalator’s handrails, and reminded the general public of their safety protocols.

They wrote, “Safety reminder for the use of the escalator. PHC advises all visitors not to step on the escalator handrail belt, as this poses a safety hazard to yourself and others.”

Why would she even do that?

Penang Hill went on to advise visitors to ultimate behave themselves in a manner that won’t injure themselves or other people.

“Kindly refrain from any behaviour that may cause harm to others. Please adhere to the safety rules at all times when visiting the hill. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” they added.

While their cautionary signages do not exactly display a ‘no standing on handrails‘ graphic, it really shouldn’t be something that has to be said.

What do you think the woman was trying to do when weirdly standing on the escalator’s handrails? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
