A 27-year-old Chinese woman was detained after causing a disturbance at the international departure hall of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 yesterday (18 August), with witnesses reportedly seeing her shouting, running, singing and dancing around the terminal.
KLIA District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M Ravi said preliminary investigations found that the woman was believed to be experiencing a mental health episode and confirmed that she was not under the influence of drugs.

She had forgotten to take her medications
According to him, information provided by the woman’s friend suggested that she may have forgotten to take her medication before the incident.
“The suspect is currently in a stable condition and is still receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital for further observation,” Ravi said when contacted today.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 1.19 PM while the woman was waiting for her flight back to China. In his official statement today (19 August), Ravi said that the woman had been travelling in Malaysia with her friend since 6 August and was scheduled to return home on the day of the incident.

The woman remains in the psychiatric ward
Airport security personnel were alerted following complaints about the disturbance and quickly arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.
Police subsequently took the woman to the KLIA Terminal 1 Police Station for further action.
The Chinese Embassy has also been informed of the incident to assist with further arrangements. The woman remains at Kajang Hospital, where she is receiving psychiatric treatment and being monitored following the incident.
No details were provided on whether her flight was rescheduled or when she is expected to return to China.
