It is no doubt that the Covid-19 situation in India is extremely worrying, as thousands are dying daily from this virus.

Just yesterday, it was reported that a mother and father abandoned their two-month-old baby who tested positive for Covid-19 and died at a hospital in Jammu on Sunday, 2 May.

According to India Times and India Today, the parents refused to take the body of their baby boy and fled soon after the baby’s death.

The baby was admitted to the Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital in the city.

Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital (SMGS) Medical Superintendent Dara Singh said the baby suffered multiple problems, including congenital heart disease. He was admitted early on Sunday and died around 8.30pm.

“After death, the baby’s Covid test was conducted and it came out positive. The parents were informed and requested to undergo the test themselves as a precautionary measure. They dodged the hospital staff on the pretext that they knew where the tests were being conducted and fled the hospital,” Singh said.

The hospital security staff made repeated calls to the parents to return but to no avail. The hospital then informed the police who are still on the lookout for the parents.

“The body of the baby is at the hospital mortuary and being assessed as per the Covid guidelines after seeking permission from the district administration,” added Singh.
