The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) kicked off on the 3rd of February in the Klang Valley for children aged 5 to 12 years old.

As of now, more than 60,000 children have received two vaccine doses since the launch of PICKids and Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s youngest son, Raif, was among the vaccine recipients on Sunday, 13 February.

The Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) shared a video of the process where it shows KJ with his son facing the nurse who explained the process, showed the vaccine bottle and the vaccine inside a syringe.

The nurse then injects Raif with the vaccine and the video ends with Raif saying that it didn’t hurt.

Antivaxxers flooded the comments

The video was filled with comments by antivaxxers who refused to believe that the video is legitimate. Some even questioned why was it a video instead of a livestream since videos can be cut.

“It’s not live… cut video… whatever it is I will not believe anything regarding KJ. Bye,” said a netizen.

“If you want to act, at least make it look real. Ask someone to help take a random bottle from the box of vaccine. Are you not confident KJ?”

Meanwhile, some even came up with their own conspiracy theories to deny the legitimacy of the video.

“Try looking at the video properly… when the nurse was extracting the vaccine it was a syringe with a metal needle but when she was injecting him it was a yellow plastic syringe,” said the user.

Nurse refutes claims

Following the huge amount of allegations thrown against KJ and the nurse, the Ministry of Health have posted a video where the nurse refutes all of the claims.

She said that she carried out the vaccine injection procedure on Raif the same way for the other children too.

“I showed the parents the vial, the way I drew the vaccine out of the vial as well as the volume in the syringe I had drawn out. The parents agreed with the dose which was 0.2ml for Pfizer Kids.”

The nurse also refuted claims that she allowed the vaccine to drip out from Raif’s arm and swore that she injected the vaccine fully into Raif’s arm and did not just inject air.

“He was standing at my side and hence I had to position myself near him and if I showed my hand clearly he would have been able to see the needle and be afraid. So I had to lower my hand a little and try to distract him and told him to count from one to ten,” she explained.

She also stated that according to procedure, a little air has to be pulled into the syringe once it’s jabbed to ensure that the needle did not hit a blood vessel.

“Please do not make assumptions and accusations as it involves people’s lives. What if it happened to you? How would you feel – uncomfortable and angry? I just did my job to the best of my ability to make the child comfortable.”
