Often, those who resort to borrowing from loan sharks are individuals who struggle with insufficient income.

But, one man is sending shockwaves through social media after it was revealed that he borrowed money from loan sharks despite earning RM19,000 a month.

The Persatuan Hak Masyarakat Malaysia (PHMM) took to its TikTok page to showcase the young man’s interaction with its chairman, Mohammad Mustafa Shaik Ismail, as he reported his hardships with the loan sharks to the NGO.

In their video, Mohammad Mustafa asked the young man how much his salary is, and received an astonishing answer.

“Gross (profit) RM19,000,” the man replied.

“(With that much), why did you still borrow (from loan sharks)?” Mohammad Mustafa further questioned, teasing the young man for perhaps spending the money in Thailand.

“Why did you go and borrow so much? Your salary is already RM19,000, so why did you have to go and borrow money?” he asked again.

The man responded by explaining that he had “run out of money” before admitting that he was addicted to gambling and spent his savings on it.

Needing to know the young man’s full story to help him, Mohammad Mustafa insisted that he answer questions truthfully and went on to explain some documents to him as the video got cut off.
