What’s really saddening about our society is that, despite their desire and willingness to work hard, there are many out there who are struggling to secure jobs.

So much so that they’ll endure homelessness in hopes that they might find work away from home.

Komtar State Assemblyman Teh Lai Heng 郑来兴 recently took to his Facebook page to showcase a mother-son duo who travelled from Ipoh to Penang to look for a better life. Though sadly, after being unable to secure jobs, they also ran out of funds and ended up situated on the streets of Penang.

Teh Lai Heng 郑来兴 wrote, “This aunty and her son are from Ipoh, they came to Penang to look for work. Unfortunately, they ran out of money and were unable to afford the cost of buying tickets to go back to Ipoh.”

“Seeing as to how they almost became ‘homeless’ around the Komtar area, I have bought bus tickets so that the two can return back to their hometown. Although it may be of little value, it means a lot to them who need it.”

While we’re happy that they are back home in Ipoh, it is still heartbreaking to know that all they wanted was a better life and that they were willing to find a job and work hard for it.

“I hope that both of them can find more suitable jobs to cover their daily living expenses,” Teh Lai Heng 郑来兴 added. We hope so, too.

We wish the aunty and her son the best of luck.
