Tourists who come to Malaysia are often treated to warm and friendly smiles and welcomes. Though, due to the high volume of foreign visitors, the insanely hot weather and other additional factors, Malaysians are unable to provide the same friendly treatment to ALL tourists.
Now, a foreign traveller is getting bashed for saying that Malaysians aren’t friendly and didn’t give him the same attention he received while in Thailand.
The traveller, Max Petrovsckii (Marilyn_ruv), took to his TikTok account to share this while he walked down the streets of Melaka.
He wrote, “Not really anything bad, I just feel like that. Generally, the country is really nice and beautiful.”
In his video, he explained how Malaysians don’t smile and compared Malaysia with Thailand
“Walking here in Malaysia, I just really got one thing, like; people here are not, I don’t think it’s about friendliness, but they do not smile at each other a lot. I mean, like, in Thailand; I’m used to it already, right? I live in Thailand and I’m used to having a lot of, like, attention, maybe? And smiles, people to each other.”
“But, people here are still a little bit nervous. I know there’s a lot of laws here and it’s very strict laws but I’m a little bit uncomfortable of them, you know? It’s not about, like, you being a foreigner and you’re being inappropriate here. But, I feel something weird, you know?”
One Malaysian girl took to the TikTok video to share that Malaysians are shy, to which he responded, “It doesn’t look ‘shy’ it looks like they hate me or something.”
Malaysians rush to defend Malaysia
And while many Malaysians took to the TikTok video to explained that most Malaysians tend to just mind their own business due to multiple reasons ranging from being busy to the hot weather, others on Twitter decided to bash the tourist.
