Parents will always want what’s best for their children, including finding a partner who can support them financially. But some parents can’t seem to draw the line between being financially stable and being extremely wealthy.

One Malaysian man sent in his story to a local radio station called, MY, where they have a segment called “MY 爱情Love All Night”. The radio DJs would then discuss and give their opinions on questions and stories submitted by listeners.

In one submission posted on their Facebook page, the netizen shared that he is facing a problem in his relationship as his girlfriend’s mother thinks he is not rich enough for her daughter.

He said that his girlfriend comes from a very rich family and every car she buys costs over RM200,000. She would also purchase branded watches, clothes, shoes and other branded items.

However, he added that his girlfriend loves him and doesn’t mind that he wasn’t born into a rich family.

“Every time we go out on a date, I don’t wear any branded items or go to expensive restaurants because I’m afraid of the pressure,” he said.

“However, her mother is very different. She likes to ask me how much I earn in front of her relatives and friends and would embarrass me in various ways. Every day, she will tell her daughter to quickly find a rich boyfriend.”

The netizen then shared that he has very low self-esteem and feels unworthy of his girlfriend.

He said that he earns a salary of RM8,000, which according to his girlfriend’s mother, is insignificant.

“Do you understand the pressure when the woman has more money than the man?” he said.
