If you’re looking to make an extra buck without much hassle, we have some good news for you. In 2016, a new app that allows you make money by tutoring students with their homework across Asia was launched.

The app is called Snapask – a platform where the students can upload their unresolved homework for a tutor help them with it. The app started in Hong Kong and has since expanded its horizons to Taiwan, Singapore, and now Malaysia. So useful eh?!

Just recently, a local Twitter user, Jannah, shared her experience using Snapask. She shared with her followers some insights on the app and ways to utilise it.

So, if you’re thinking about downloading the app, read on as we broke it down to SEVEN points about what you need to know about it!

1. The app is FREE to download
Just go to Google Play or iTunes to download the app then sign up for it! How? Well, after installing the app you will be given two options to choose from, allowing you to sign up as either a student or a tutor.

Then upload a few documents (IC, registration document, an academic transcript (SPM certificate, Diploma, or Degree). After that, wait for an e-mail of approval (you may need to wait for a while because your application will be reviewed by real-life people). Once you’ve received the e-mail, you’re good to go! Quality control ma!

2. You choose the subjects you want to tutor

You don’t have to tutor all the subjects — just subjects you consider yourself an expert at. So, you don’t need to worry about tutoring subjects you’re not that familiar with.

On top of that, you can also choose which level you’d like tutor. So, if you’re a busy person, you may want to take easier levels.

Also, remember that you will be tutoring a majority of Malaysian students, so it is best if you’re familiar with the current Malaysian syllabus to make your tutoring more effective.

3. You NEED to be an expert in your subject

Meaning: You must have good grades for the subject you have chosen to tutor, or else it won’t be easy to become a tutor on Snapask.

Apparently at least an A or A+ in SPM for that subject is required. A- is not favourable.

Remember, to be a registered tutor, you need to have your application approved!

4. You pick the questions to answer

You don’t have to answer it all, just pick a few questions you think you can handle and answer those. For example, after answering a mathematical equation, you will need to send a snapshot of how you got the correct answer to your students so they can learn from it.

5. Tutors get ratings for credibility

The students who seek your help have the liberty to rate you. Yep, just like Uber and Grab!

So, if you did not do well when you’re tutoring, this could affect your credibility as a tutor. Thus, only pick questions you are really confident in answering because once you have picked the question you can’t turn back.

6. You ALWAYS get paid

Even if the answers are wrong, you still get paid. For each answer given, you will be paid RM1.50. Now, that’s really considerable for just ONE question. For example, Jannah cashed out RM1,254 from 836 answered questions.
