A care centre full of elderly people in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, was left without caregivers after the centre was raided by the Immigration Department (JIM) following a complaint by a Malaysian man.

The National Secretary of Association for Residential Aged Care Operators of Malaysia (AGECOPE), Fong Muntoh, took to his TikTok account to share how all the caregivers at the care centre, who were all foreigners, were taken away by JIM, leaving the centre in a dilemma.

Muntoh shared, “Now, I’m at the centre called House of Megaways, which was raided by Immigration a few days ago, and they took away all the foreign workers, and then now, the 41 (elderly) people have nobody to take care of them. Only the boss.”

“The national (AGECOPE) team is at the back, we are discussing how to deal with this situation.”

How this all started

Muntoh then revealed how an elderly man from the care centre had passed away, leaving his adult son fuming at the centre despite the death being age-related.

The man first filed a complaint with the Welfare Department (JKM) against the centre, and when that didn’t yield the results he wanted, he called JIM.

“The story goes like this. One resident was not feeling well and was sent to a hospital, he passed away at the hospital. And his son came over and asked what had happened to his father. Well, he was old, he had some problems, and he passed away. He was not happy that his father had died, so he went and called JKM,”

JKM came and checked, and found nothing wrong. Then, (the son) was still not happy because he wanted something to happen to the care centre. Then, he made a report to Immigration. Immigration came and took away all of the (caregivers),” Muntoh explained.

The man’s actions left a group of elderly people without proper care

Feeling furious over what the man did, Muntoh shared the consequences of the man’s actions.

“Now, what a stupid thing to do. By reporting to Immigration, they took away all of the workers, now there is nobody to care (for the elderly residents there). Now, the problem is, who is going to take care?”

His team attempted to seek JKM’s assistance in housing the elderly residents of the care centre, but JKM has been unable to help at all.

“There is nobody to help, nobody to take care of, nobody knows what to do. And that guy whose father passed away, your father died, then died lah. But, don’t cause problems for other people’s parents,”

“That is stupidity. It is really sad when I hear these kinds of things. It’s really hard to take care of old people, and this is a charity home.”

In the comment section, many pointed out that it is the care centre’s fault for hiring foreigners without permits, but Muntoh clarified that there are no such permits to apply for in the elderly care industry, and locals tend to opt for jobs in other industries.
