M’sian Rents a Bungalow to Store Cash as He Doesn’t Trust Banks, Gets Robbed by Nephew

From leaked data to unauthorised transactions and many other scam calls, it just seems as if Malaysians can never catch a break!

With a wave of cases going on around, this 30-year-old man has decided to forego bank accounts and store all his cash and valuable items in a rented bungalow. Unfortunately, he couldn’t even trust his own family and turns out, his 19-year-old nephew broke into his rented bungalow and stole all his valuable items.

According to China Press, this man and his wife have been storing their valuable items and cash in a rented bungalow since 2020 as they do not trust banks. On 24 August 2022, the man decided to head back to the bungalow to get some cash and realised that his bungalow has been broken in to.

He has mentioned that close to RM434,000 cash along with valuables worth RM200,000 had been stolen.

A week after making a police report, the police were able to track down 11 suspects and they found out that the man’s nephew is the main culprit. The police have also mentioned that most of the money they stole were used to buy:

  • 5 motorcycles
  • 2 cars
  • some motorcycle accessories
  • 6 iPhone 13 Pro max

They will be charged under the section 457 of the Penal code for housebreaking and all 11 suspects are currently detained.
