Popular Malaysian preacher Firdaus Wong has called out the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for allegedly closing down the Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) Street Dakwah stall in Bukit Bintang.

Taking to his Instagram page, he claimed DBKL had deployed 12 enforcement officers to shut down the stall, where only a single MRM volunteer was on duty.

Malaysian preacher called out DBKL for allegedly closing down the MRM Street Dakwah stall that has been operating for 14 years

Firdaus responded to the incident with a touch of sarcasm:

“Very efficient. Alhamdulillah. So efficient, especially while on a holiday, with 12 officers present for only one MRM volunteer.

“For 14 years, MRM has held Street Dakwah there; dozens, if not hundreds of times, the police and DBKL have passed by and visited the MRM stall.”

He further clarified the history of their operations: “I was once asked if MRM needs to apply for a licence or permit to conduct Street Dakwah, and the answer was that there is no need because MRM does not conduct sales activities and does not disrupt traffic. However, DBKL officers asked for a permit this time. Last Sunday, MRM held Street Dakwah at the same location; police and DBKL officers passed by but did not intervene, let alone ask for a permit.”

He added that while DBKL allegedly shut down the stall and seized their materials, no summonses were issued.

A possible third party?

The preacher went on to explain that the party that first approached them to ask for permits wore shirts with the word ‘Security’ on them.

“An individual named Imran stated that DBKL had given them the right to manage the location where we were doing the Street Dakwah, and they planned to rent it out to other parties. I am not sure if this is true, and whether it is standard practice for DBKL to give authority to a third party to manage pedestrian areas like those in Bukit Bintang,” Firdaus noted.

Concluding with another sharp remark, he said:

“I do not believe their actions are an act of revenge for my outspokenness on the illegal temple issue. DBKL is very professional. DBKL’s efficiency is proven.”
