The recent floods show us that some of the infrastructures we have are certainly not suitable for flood situations, such as basement parking.

On 7 March, a netizen by the name of Naz shared his harrowing escape from a building’s basement parking during the flood.

This took place in the GMBB building and in the video, you can see the floodwaters rushing into the basement parking with the water level a little more than ankle-deep.

At that time, Naz was with his wife and they managed to get out only after 10 minutes as the boom gate malfunctioned.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Naz says that when they reached the basement parking the water was already ankle-deep and it was rising fast.

“At first, we didn’t think too much about it as the exits were pretty close. What we didn’t know was that the power for the boom gate was off.”

As they saw that the exit leading to Pudu was gushing water, they decided to go to the other exit. The boom gate suffered a short circuit and it needed to be manually lifted for the people to get out.

Even though it was such a terrifying situation, Naz said that he and his wife, Shalina were able to keep calm as they focused on getting out.

“I guess at that time, we knew that there is a way out that was unobstructed. So, we knew that we are not going to be stuck there.”

After making their way out of the parking, they drove slowly and managed to get home safely.

Netizens were horrified to see this and believe that there should be improvements regarding basement parking.

“This is a dangerous ‘trap’. These basement parkings were built to escape the fire and not for floods. There should be some improvements done.”

Naz says that if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, try your best not to panic and focus on getting out of the place.

He also highlighted that if you are able to afford flood insurance, you should get it.

It would be good to check the weather updates if you need to go out too so that you can plan what kind of transport you can use.

We hope that everyone who was there managed to escape unscathed.
