Content creator and durian stall owner, Liyana Chan, took to her Facebook page to showcase how her daughter bought an iPhone after Liyana made her daughter work at her durian stall in Putatan, Sabah, to learn the value of money and earn the gadget.

She wrote, “The results of her hard work from taking care of durians every day and saving money. She got her iPhone. I’m sorry, my daughter, as I was forced to do this because making money is not easy. You need to work hard to climb the ladder of success. So, for whatever you want, you must work hard.”

“There is no ‘Mummy, I want a new handphone tomorrow’, that’s BIG NO! You have to save money, only then will you get what you want.”

Liyana had initially given her daughter a different phone but the daughter ended up spoiling it.

“I let her try out having a phone and it ended with the LCD screen coming off. She had to hold it together with cellophane tape to prevent it from falling apart. It was so saddening.”

But she’s ultimately happy that she’s teaching her daughter the value of money so that the daughter will work hard to earn money and take care of herself when Liyana is no longer around.

“Study hard, okay? The world is very tough now, education and experience are very important. If one day I am no more and even your aunties are no more, you will still have your experiences. I believe making money is not easy without effort and knowledge,” she added.

Liyana’s decision to teach her daughter the value of money earned her much praise from Malaysians.

“An education that is rarely provided by parents these days. You’re a great mother.”

“You’re right, sister. (Children) need to understand this from a young age.”

Iphone 4

“I respect this sister’s parenting style.”

What do you think of Liyana’s decision to get her daughter to work, be independent and earn her new iPhone?
