A Malaysian man is receiving significant flak online for allegedly “kidnapping” his neighbour’s cat and releasing it in a different area. The man reportedly took these drastic measures after claiming the cat had treated his home as a “public toilet”.

The story gained traction after Malaysian influencer and former teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh took to Facebook to highlight the divide between outraged cat lovers and those defending the man’s actions.

“Cat lovers have joined forces to condemn his actions”

According to Mohd Fadli, groups of cat lovers have been making mass reports against the man’s Facebook profile.

“Cat lover groups made mass reports on the man’s Facebook for capturing a neighbour’s cat and releasing it elsewhere. He claims that the cat frequently urinated and defecated in his compound,” Fadli wrote.

The situation escalated when the man hosted a TikTok live stream to debate the issue. Fadli noted that the controversy has since spread to Threads and X.

“Generally, they have condemned his actions as cruel and inhumane. Even so, a small minority still support him, especially those who have had negative experiences with neighbours’ pets,” the influencer added.

The man originally shared his “method” on social media, appearing unapologetic about the distress caused to the cat’s owners.

“Ways to get rid of the problem of neighbours’ cats using our house as a public toilet. Alhamdulillah, this method is very effective without having to argue with the neighbour.

“It’s just that, serves their kid right, screaming for their missing cat,” he posted.

A repeat offender

The controversy deepened when Mohd Fadli revealed in the comments section that this was not an isolated incident. The man allegedly repeated the act with a second cat, releasing it in a commercial area.

The incident has sparked a wider conversation about responsible pet ownership and how to handle disputes between neighbours.

What would you do if your neighbour kidnapped your cat and released it elsewhere? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
