Education is considered essential in many countries as it could lead to many opportunities in the future. That being said, many people would encourage their kids to further their studies in hopes that they’ll be able to have more opportunities.

But over the years, there has been an argument that furthering your studies in this modern day may not necessarily get you opportunities. A Malaysian man recently shared his thoughts anonymously on a Facebook page about an insurance agent he met.

In his post, he said, “An insurance agent I met wears a Rolex watch, drives a Porsche, and tells everyone that he earns a lot of money by leading a team. He encourages people not to continue their studies and would even tell them that continuing their studies after secondary school wastes time.”

He then expressed that he doesn’t understand why he is imposing his opinion on others.

“He would brag that he didn’t further his studies and only has an SPM certificate, but he is thriving in life. Ironically, he sends his kids to international school. Isn’t this a testament that education is important?”

He then ended his post by saying,

“Just because you wear branded items on your body doesn’t mean you’re successful. If people don’t continue their studies after secondary school, there won’t be doctors to help cure sickness.”

Following the post, many netizens were quick to share their thoughts and here’s what some of them said:

“If you have the opportunity to study then you should continue. Don’t regret not studying after the opportunity has passed.”

“His kids should also sell insurance; then only would his testament be real.”

“If you decide to start a business but have no basic knowledge and don’t understand the market, you’ll still end up having to close the business and then losing money.”

Whether you continue to pursue your studies or not, there will always be a good and bad side to it. As long as your decision works for you, opinions from other people shouldn’t affect you. You do you!
