A lorry driver was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the Seremban Sessions Court today (August 26), for sexually assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter in June this year.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the 45-year-old man was ordered to serve the sentence after pleading guilty before Judge Datin Surita Budin, who also ordered him to undergo rehabilitation counselling and police supervision for a year after his sentence is completed.

His offence took place on June 10, at 2 AM, at a house in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, where he is said to have entered his stepdaughter’s bedroom and asked if the victim wanted to play on his mobile phone. He then sexually assaulted her.

What happened in court

The pro bono lawyer who represented him shared that he works as a lorry driver for a cleaning company, with an income of RM1,700, and has to support 3 schooling children and his unemployed wife.

“This is the accused’s first offence, and his guilty plea saves the court’s costs and time. I request that the court give the minimum sentence to the accused, who is also remorseful of his actions,” he said.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor, on the other hand, asked that the court consider the interests of the public over the interests of the accused, especially considering that the accused should have protected the victim and not taken advantage of her.
