It is normal to assume that certain activities have a risk of injury such as riding e-scooters and attending a spinning class. However, could you ever imagine that washing dishes could also put you in a hospital?

This is what happened to TikTok user @sweetsecrettt21 who shared that a piece of dried bihun managed to get stuck underneath her nail whilst she was washing dishes.

In the video, she explained that the incident happened after sahur whilst she was washing the dishes.

“We had bakso (bihun) for bukak puasa so when it came to sahur, it was already dried up. It was stuck on the plate so I used my nails to try to get it off. Suddenly out of nowhere I felt a sharp pain as if something poked my nail.”

She then noticed that there was a piece of dried bihun stuck underneath her nail. She then tried to soak the affected nail in a bowl of warm water hoping that the bihun would expand but nothing happened.

Trip to the clinic

As she went about her day, the pain started to get worse. She attempted to go to 3 clinics but was rejected by all of them before finally finding a clinic that would see her.

At the clinic, the doctor cut her nail to make it easier and tried to take out the bihun by using tweezers all without using anesthetic.

“At the time I tried to endure the pain but eventually I couldn’t. So I told the doctor and he then injected me to help with the pain. However, it did not feel any better and the doctor did not manage to get it out.”

The doctor eventually referred her to a hospital for further treatment.

The hospital

She then went to the hospital where she had to get x-rayed. The doctor then told her that they have 2 options, either they remove the nail completely or they inject her with anesthetic and try to extract the bihun.

She opted for the 2nd option. “The doctor was trying to extract it till my nail was bleeding but fortunately I couldn’t feel anything. He then took a syringe filled with water and injected it underneath the nail and tried to wash out the bihun.”

Fortunately, this managed to help to remove the bihun! She said that her finger was numb for a whole day due to the medications she was given.

Fear of washing dishes

The video has amassed over 785,800 views. Plenty of netizens said that the video has now made them fearful of bihun and having to wash dishes.

“I was planning to cook bihun later, have to be careful now, very dangerous,” commented a user.

Another user said that after seeing the video, they will not be washing their dishes for a month.

“After this I won’t be eating bihun. Will be scared that whilst it could get stuck whilst washing dishes,” said another.

Meanwhile, a netizen suggested that this is the perfect example why gloves should be worn whilst washing dishes.
