Running an agency that serves clients means you have to follow their instructions and meet their demands. But those who have worked in the industry before will know that some clients (or potential clients) seem to think they can make all sorts of demands without being charged.

A Malaysian social media agency that provides design services for logos, business cards, flyers, menus, posters, catalogues, banners, billboards, websites, and more, posted an encounter they had with a potential client recently.

In a Facebook post, KF Design posted a screenshot of a text message they received from the client. In the conversation, the client asked the agency if they do Facebook postings.

When KF Design replied that they do provide that service, the client explained that they had tried a few different designers previously but didn’t find their work satisfactory, and asked if they could ‘test out’ the agency’s design first.

KF Design thought it was a joke but it seems like the client was serious about it.

Here’s how the conversation went:

  • Client: “Hi, may I ask if you help people make FB posting?”
  • KF Design: “Hi, yes we do.”
  • Client: “It’s like this, I previously found a few designers whose work was not satisfactory, so, I’d like to ask if we can test out your designs first?”
  • KF Design: “Hahahahahaha, so you’re trying to say you want to test first?”
  • Client: “Just want to see first.”

KF Design then responded with a ‘rolling on the floor laughing’ emoji sticker. The page’s admin took to the comment section to warn other agencies as the client might be looking for his ‘next prey.’

Netizens were amused by the posting too and commented that the client could’ve just taken a look at KF Design’s portfolio.

It is unclear if KF Design accepted the task, but from the looks of it, they probably declined the request.

What would you do if you were in KF Design’s shoes?
