Volleyball is a common sport that most Malaysians are aware of. That being said, many schools and states around Malaysia would then handpick and train their students to participate in friendly tournaments to help them gain some experience.

Just recently, in a video live-streamed by the Johor Volleyball Association, it was seen that the match was between two states, Johor and Melaka. At the 20-minute mark, the Melaka team allegedly ‘slipped’ and allowed the Johor team to gain a point.

The score was at 16 – 11 with Johor leading and as they took a short break to strategize, the coach from team Melaka went over and gave 2 of his players who are under 14 a slap on the face. While the 2 girls pulled it through the ordeal, their teammates gently comforted them before continuing the game.

Following the whole incident, the video has since gone viral on Twitter and the Youth and Sports minister, Hannah Yeoh has been made aware of the situation.

In her recent tweet, Hannah Yeoh stressed that “this is wrong” and has since spoken to the Education Minister, Fadhlina Siddiq regarding the matter. “We are both getting more information about this incident “, she said.

As of now, the coach has been suspended from his responsibilities and authorities are looking into the matter. Furthermore, Fadhlina has also come out with a statement saying that the Education Ministry will not compromise on the incident and will fully cooperate with the authorities in the probe.

No matter how bad the mistake was, it’s never okay to slap a player.
