If surviving means losing parts of your body, what choice will you make?

A 37-year-old Malaysian beautician had no choice but to bid farewell to ALL her limbs to survive. The beautician, Ai Ling, who worked in Singapore said when she felt unwell, the doctor and she initially thought it was merely food poisoning.

“I had fever, abdominal pain and it got better after my 1st visit and took some medicines.”

During her 2nd visit, the doctor noticed something odd and said she needed to be warded in the emergency room, and that was when Ai Ling’s world fell apart.

She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and due to the severeness of the infection, her brain did not receive enough oxygen supply. To keep her alive, the doctor injected a drug into her body to keep the blood flowing to the body, according to an interview.

However, this may require a sacrifice – removing some parts of the body.

Ai Ling initially thought that she would merely lose some fingers. However, she then noticed her limbs slowly turned black and getting heavier.

“Doctor said that the cells had died and the bacterial infection had caused sepsis, so if I was going to stay alive, my limbs have to be amputated,” Ai Ling explained.

By December 19 last year, Ai Ling said goodbye to her limbs. She had to fork out her savings and extra expenses for the medical bills – approximately RM1.04 million!

“A prosthetic hand alone costs about RM40,000, and RM50,000 for a prosthetic leg. I was discharged from the hospital in January this year.”

Despite her condition, it does not deter her will to continue working. Ai Ling hopes to continue her treatment in Singapore and find a suitable job after recovery. She is willing to share her experience with people who have similar experiences to help them face difficulties.

Thanks to the support from all sides, including friends and her boss, Ai Ling managed to brace through this tough situation. We wish nothing but the best for Ai Ling in the future.
