The flash floods have sent parts of the country into chaos. However, the natural disaster have resulted in many Malaysians coming together to focus efforts on helping those in need.

The Youth and Sports Ministry is under fire for organising a launch ceremony for the ministry’s flood relief effort.

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak criticised the event on a Facebook post where Najib writes, “I feel for things like his, there is no need for a signboard or a formal launching ceremony.”

“Efforts and aid should be prioritised immediately.”

Najib’s post garnered plenty of support and currently sits on over 36,000 likes and 1,600 shares.

Many netizens agreed that instead of organising a launching ceremony to announce what the ministry will be doing, they should have just went straight into relief efforts for those who have been impacted by the floods.

Minister of Youth & Sports apologises and agrees with Najib

Najib’s post even caught the attention of the Minister of Youth & Sports himself, who offered an apology through Facebook. In a Facebook post, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu says, “I agree with what was said by Najib Razak.”

“There was no need for an official launching ceremony as well as a digital display,” he wrote.

Ahmad Faizal added, “This was an announcement to mobilise youth volunteers nationwide after the floods.”

“The Youth and Sports Ministry will improve and correct whatever that needs to be done.”

The event was to launch the ministry’s post-flood volunteer squad to assist in the aftermath of the devastating flash floods that have hit various parts of the country this weekend.
