Just recently (May 2019), Malaysia Meteorological Department (MET) announced that the country will be experiencing hot and dry weather from May to October in conjunction with the monsoon shifts.

According to the statement issued on the MET website, Malaysians can expect heavy downpour and thunderstorms accompanied by strong wind in the evening and night. Throughout the period of south-west Monsoon which started in early May, many places in the country will experience drier and warmer climates.

Terengganu, Pahang, the coastal areas of Kelantan and some parts in Johor will receive lesser rain than average in May, which is 150mm. Meanwhile, other states in Peninsular Malaysia will receive rainfall at the normal volume, which is between 150mm and 250mm.

Besides drinking plenty of water, here are some other things you can do to stay healthy during this dry season.

  • wear light coloured clothes
  • avoid outdoor activities between 11am and 5pm
  • apply sunscreen and wear a hat if you must stay outdoors during daytime
  • avoid alcoholic and sugary drinks as they can make dehydration worse

So guys, even though most of us are already accustomed to the hot and dry weather in Malaysia, it’s still important to drink enough water as we tend to fall sick during this season! Spread the word, guys!
